Chiropractors appear to be well integrated into regional and rural general practice networks, although a sizeable minority of GPs still refuse to refer patients to them, a NSW study shows.
Two out of three GPs refer patients to a chiropractor or osteopath at least several times a year and about a quarter of GPs refer patients on at least a monthly basis, a survey of 585 GPs in rural and regional parts of NSW has found. The survey showed that about 8% of GPs referred patients to a chiropractor or osteopath at least once a week, 15% at least monthly and about 40% referred patients at least a few times a year.
