One of the most enjoyable aspect of being a podiatrist is helping people to stay active despite having chronic foot pain. Unfortunately, for many people with chronic foot pain, life must go on and the demands placed on their feet are constant due to their work, sport or personal commitments.
Most of the chronic pain conditions we see at La Trobe Health Centre are due to tissue overload or ‘wear and tear’. The causative factors are often related to foot type or loading patterns that occur during repetitive movements in sport or at work, footwear or an underlying medication condition. It is important to also understand that a combination of causative factors often occurs.
Our feet are designed to be our primary weight bearing structures for when we contact the ground, which mean that resting or avoid activity is often difficult without professional help.
At Pro Feet Podiatry we can help with our range supportive materials and devices that can be used to protect a foot or ankle in the presence of long term injury. One excellent example of this is a CAM walker as part of your overall management plan.
These devices are used where specific injuries mean non-weight bearing or minimal weight bearing is required, with or without crutches, to allow an injury to rest and heal. Private health insurers generally provide rebates on CAM Walkers and braces when fitted by our Podiatrists.
If you have any questions or would like us to help in professionally fitting a CAM Walker or brace, or for any other podiatry problem such as chronic heel pain or any other long standing foot problem, please give us a call or book your appointment online.
We look forward to caring for you soon in keeping you active, healthy and happy!
