How do I fix my heel pain?
“Heel pain is one of the most common conditions that we help people with day-to-today” says our Geelong Podiatrist Maddie McMahon. It is also one of the most frustrating conditions as it can affect even the most basic of our walking and standing activities that we do each day!
What is heel pain?
There a variety of pathologies that come under this “heel pain” umbrella and it can be important to identify the specific diagnosis. It can occur in all walks of life, from people on their feet all day for work to athletes training for a marathon. Some people may have been diagnosed with heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathy, fat pad irritation or something similar related to the heel.
What causes heel pain?
The cause is usually due to a variety of factors (multifactorial!). Heel pain generally occurs because of an overload of the specific tissue that is sore or injured. This overload can happen because of shoes, foot function, muscle tightness, muscle weakness, long periods of walking or standing, hormonal changes that occur, even pregnancy and menopause.
